Violacein is a pigment found in Chromobacterium violaceum, it has a number of properties, such as; anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-protozoa, anti-tumoral. Violacein is produced by a series of genes named vioA, vioB, vioC, vioD and vioE. A violacein sequence is 8 kilo-bases (kb) in size.
